The app works just fine. I started using their half marathon app in 2012 to get ready for a race, and enjoyed it, so when I saw the 10K app on sale, I thought I’d pick it up to work on increasing my speed a bit, since I didn’t plan on doing another half marathon any time soon.
The FIRST long run when set for “first 10k” for extremely slow me is already over 5 miles (3 min walk, 10 min. warm-up run, 3.5 miles, 10 min cool-down run, walk 3 min). Anyone who runs faster than 13–14 mins per mile could hit 6 miles. They do realize that a 10K is only 6.2, right? If I could run 6.2 miles my first week trying, I wouldn’t really want this app, now, would I? I’ve been on Jeff Galloway’s website and seen his training plans; this is not it.
The “improve my time” setting is a *little* better, though I still don’t understand why a 10K app is having you run 10 and 12 mile long runs. I like that it has 400m intervals on the second day, instead of just running the time straight through, like on the regular settings.
This really has not wowed me. If you like the other features—the beat sync, the pace timer—then sure, this is fine. But honestly, you might as well go for the half marathon trainer. Costs a little more, sure, but it’ll take you farther, and at a more reasonable pace.
